1 Year Anniversary

My hair at one year can't really see the length but it has diffently grown. I added color in the top to give it some dimension. The color I used was Paul Mitchell The Color I have 3 colors going on some dark brown , gold and copper tones. I diffently noticed a difference when I used box color the first time and professional color this time. Can you see the difference? For one, my curl pattern didn't get looser like the first time, and its not dry its very moisturized. Natural girls I diffently recommend professional color or henna (vegetable dye).

I AM BACK UPDATES

First I must say I have truly miss blogging.I have so many things I have to talk bout first I must say I haven't had the time to blog because I had to adapt to my new life change. I decided it was time for a career change. I decided to go back to school and do something I have a passion in and that's hair yes hair... I am attending Paul Mitchell The School and I must say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am learning so much about myself, talents. Skills things I thought I couldn't even do.. Such as razor cut an entire haircut. One of the things I have grown to love more and more is being natural in this industry. I am always inspiring someone. The teachers, students or guests they are curious to know what made me go natural what products am I using or how do I get my hair to do that. Being in school and seeing how relaxers have caused so much damaged I am so glad now I can say sodium hydroxide and ATG is very bad for the hair. I have the knowledge now why these chemicals has caused so much damage to the hair.So stay tuned for pics of my hair growth and my work. This blog will be about natural hair and other textures as well.

AfroVeda Product Review

AfroVeda Twisted Ginger Almond Butter Review

AfroVeda Pur Whipped Hair Gelly Review

Afroveda Claim:

"This old-fashioned recipe blends Almond Butter with our Ayurvedic Herbal Blend for maximum softness, shine, manageability and growth. It provides a soft gentle hold for styles like braids, twists, strawsets, and more. Also provides curl definition in naturally curly hair while moisturizing and softening hair at the same time."

Omg thats all I am going to say about Afroveda products. I used the Afroveda Totally Twisted Ginger Almond Butter and Afroveda Pur Whipped Hair Gelly and can I say I had a twistout that turned so many heads including men asking me how do I get my hair to look like that. The butter melted instantly in my hair and left my hair moisturized and soft. I noticed that my hair responded better with Afroveda Pur Whipped Gelly than Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding. The curl definition that Afroveda products provides is amazing. The pictures are not the best quality taken from my blackberry but here are the results of a 3 day old twist out.

Price: $9.00

Natural Hair Daughers

After reading LocRocker I was inspired to do a post about my daughters natural hair. When I am out with my daughters I am always getting ask if I am going to put a relaxer in my oldest daughter hair. My response is always heck no. I want my daughters growing up loving their natural hair regardless of how thick curly coily kinky it might be. I do not want my daughters to feel in order for them to be accepted their hair needs to be straight or look a certain way. A lot of parents put chemicals in their daughter's hair to feel that it is the only way they can manage their hair.I feel that we as parents have to do what is best for our children hair. One of the things I can not stand is to see a child with rubber bands on their hair that is too tight until you see the white bumps around the edges. I use the same products for my hair in my daughter's hair. I deep conditioned and use hot oil treatments the same way I would take care of my hair. I do not use heat on their hair not even a blow dryer. When I braid my daughter's hair in order to get it stretched I wash it and plait in 8 sections and wait 2 days to make sure its very dry and braid that way. I just love to see little girls with natural hair the way God intend for their hair to be.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard Results

Here are the results of Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I wore my hair like this for a week. I really love the Kinky Curly Curling Custard but I am not happy about the price increase from $26.00 to $29.99. I am looking for an alternative that would give me great results but with a lesser price tag.

How I applied Kinky Curly Curling Custard

Clarified hair with Oyin Honey Wash I really love how it does not stripped the hair.

Knot Today applied a lot from roots to end in sections with dripping wet hair

2nd Day

While I was in the shower I ran my head under the water enough to get wet but not dripping wet and shake and go.

3rd Day

I did not apply anything on hair just fluffed hair.

4th Day

Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz to reactivate the Kinky Curly Curling Custard.

5th Day

Chunky Afro

Here is my Chunky Afro using Sunsilk Captavating Curls Conditioner Only. The way I achieved this look. I put the conditioner on my hair smooth it through my hair and got under the shower with my head backwards and let the water run through without touching my hair and when I got out the shower I just shake my head and go. My hair stayed moisturized all day and it was soft.

Summer Hair

I am loving the summer and how much my hair stays moisturized using products I thought wasn't worth buying again. When I first tried Kinky Curly Curling Custard it was in December and my hair took forever to dry it wasn't moisturized or anything. I was wondering what was the hype all about but now I am loving it. I can get a week wear out of my hair and it dries less than 3 hours. The other product I am loving is Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries on my puff. I carry it around in my purse in a travel sized spray bottle and spritz if my hair need to be refreshing. So far I am loving being natural and I can finally get a nice puff which I am super excited about.

Conditioner Only Method African's Best Olive Oil Deep Conditioner

I have been traveling and away from blogging but I am going to get back in the swing of things this week so I will have more updates on some of the new products I have tried. So its hot and humid now its time for me to experiment with wearing my natural hair for the first time in the spring/summer. I have went on youtube and kept hearing great things about the conditioner only method and found one video of a lady using Olive Oil Deep Conditioner by African's Best. I tried this method and so far I like it it is thicker and I prefer creamier conditioners because my hair is so thick and my hair stayed moist and my curls were popping but the next time I am going to try different conditioners and see which one will give me the best curl definition. I will be trying different conditioners to see which one give me the look I am trying to achieve. I would love to hear from you ladies what conditioners are you using?

My DIY Kinky Twists 2nd Time Around

This is my second time doing my own kinky twists. I am doing my own challenge to go at least a month with a protective style. I made my own glycerin mix and I will still use my Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries love that stuff. I know I will not wash these a lot maybe every 2 weeks because im not a professional twister yet and I do not want them to slip out so I will use seabreeze to cleanse my scalp. It took 3 days to complete although I couldve done them in a day but with 2 small kids that wouldve been impossible. The hair that I used was Nafy Kinky Twist. I love that hair is so lightweight and twist great. My last set of kinky twist I did I got a blister on my finger from twisting I guess it was from the hair feeling so rough. So far I am loving them and proud of myself because I save myself $200. If I can do it anyone can. My next project is micros. I kinda want to hide my hair and watch it grow in protective styles but then another part of me want to wear the wash and goes for the summer. I will see how this goes first and in between my hair resting period I may do the wash and goes. I love convenience and this is what I call convenience. I want to get some nubian twists next but I have to see how those are done first the good thing about that hair is that you do not have to dip in hot water it gives more of a natural look. I would like to hear what you ladies are doing for the summer with your hair?

Kinky Curly Product Line

My thoughts on Kinky Curly product line I'm going to start with the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. When I first applied this product to my hair I applied too much. I am more of a feel it type of person and by this being a styling product my hair was dry after wards. It was crunchy so it was a no go for me so I decided to try it for a second time before I give it away and I had better success with it when I used less. So a little goes a long way. The first time I put less Knot Today and more Kinky Curly Custard. The second time around I put more Knot Today and less Kinky Curly Custard and it wasn't as dry. I did have a lot of curl definition but I think I could achieve the same look with Wet Set Pudding by Curls SisterSmith. I absolutely love the Knot Today I use a lot of that but it gives my thick hair so much slip. I am a little heavy handed when using products. I haven't tried the Spiral Spritz or the Gloss Pomade. I will use it more when I start the wash and gos in the summer. I think I can live without this Custard but I cant live without the Knot Today.

5 Months Growth

The things I am learning about my hair is amazing. I havent saw my real texture in almost 15 years. I remember when I was a little girl I had thick wavy hair no matter what I did or how much gel I would put in it to lay my edges down they would always wave up( or maybe thats some of the Indian in me). I remember I would get a brush and run the water on it and use some Blue Magic grease to achieve that slick look. Do any of you remember those days? I have only been natural for 5 months and through this journey I have learned so much. The number one thing I have learned is what work for someone elses hair may not work for me. I love My Hair and everything about it.

10 Things To Avoid For Healthy Hair

When I first went natural I was so confused about what products I could put on my hair and the ones I shouldnt put on my hair. I went to the Beauty Supply Store and noticed most of their products catered towards relaxed hair. So after researching these are some of the ingredients that should be avoided.

Mineral Oil-

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL

PETROLATUM

polyethylene glycol-PEG

PROPYLENE GLYCOL- PG

SODIUM LAURYL SUFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES)

CHLORINE

DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethnanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine)
