Natural Hair Daughers

After reading LocRocker I was inspired to do a post about my daughters natural hair. When I am out with my daughters I am always getting ask if I am going to put a relaxer in my oldest daughter hair. My response is always heck no. I want my daughters growing up loving their natural hair regardless of how thick curly coily kinky it might be. I do not want my daughters to feel in order for them to be accepted their hair needs to be straight or look a certain way. A lot of parents put chemicals in their daughter's hair to feel that it is the only way they can manage their hair.I feel that we as parents have to do what is best for our children hair. One of the things I can not stand is to see a child with rubber bands on their hair that is too tight until you see the white bumps around the edges. I use the same products for my hair in my daughter's hair. I deep conditioned and use hot oil treatments the same way I would take care of my hair. I do not use heat on their hair not even a blow dryer. When I braid my daughter's hair in order to get it stretched I wash it and plait in 8 sections and wait 2 days to make sure its very dry and braid that way. I just love to see little girls with natural hair the way God intend for their hair to be.

  1. Beautiful girls. That little looks like she's the boss!
I agree with you about doing what's best for our childrens' hair and teaching them that your hair does not have to silky, shiney, and straight to be beautiful. I'm teaching my girls that now. You know, I had to learn that first for myself. I am now growing my childrens relaxers out. I want them to see all of their "Crinklies." That's what my 8 yr. old calls it.

  3. Awwww, how beautiful are your little queens? Simply gorgeous! I feel the same way about my future kids. Ain't gon be no relaxin' in my house. If that is something they want to do when they are older---fine. But I will be sure to show them the damaging effects of perms. And if that doesn't work, I'll just tell them how harmful the ingredients are to our hair and bodies. Don't want to scare them but like you said, I want to them to really appreciate the hair that God gave them.

But I realllly need to learn how to braid. The cute design on your youngest---I could never do. HA!

  5. Your girls are beautiful. I have a four and and a five year old and I make a habit of getting them to appreciate their natural hair. I try to encourage other mothers to do the same, but some of them are still on their own natural hair journeys. If they ever get to an age where they want to wear relaxers, I am going to make sure that they are well informed on the proper way to get it done.
